MYM and RT: Stage Decors for Sinulog Festival

The picture above was the top-stage decor for the Holy Mass - as part of the Sinulog Festival at Cebu City. The said event usually falls on the third Sunday of January - as the feast of Sr. Santo NiƱo. It is usually joined by people from different places - especially who have promises to the Patron Saint.

I've joined Sinulog Festival for several years now; this year, it rained cats and dogs while doing the street parade, but still, the event was pushed through; and I can say that you can feel the cooperation of one another to make the event possible.

Whenever I visit Cebu City, I always try to drop by at the church and pray.

Happy Mellow Yellow Monday and Ruby Tuesday everyone! cheers!

Students as Great Teachers

I have been an Online English Tutor for years now. We think that teachers help the students expand their knowledge, encourage to show their talents and inspire to improve their skills.

As a teacher, I also think that students are best teachers as well; they teach us to be patient, understanding, caring, sincere, hardworking, considerate, productive and loving.

For me, a teacher is considered effective if his/her students understand the lessons and use their understandings to become successful people.
For this week's Ruby Tuesday meme, I want to share this picture of presents/gifts - which I gave to my students who made a great impact in my teaching career and as a person.

Happy Ruby Tuesday Everyone - Cheers!

Silliman University's Larena Hall - My Dormitory Life

First of all, let me tell you a short story about my college life. I wasn’t really planning on moving out from my city and move to another school to have a Bachelor’s Degree. But due to some problems occurred in my previous school, I had to move to another school and coincidentally to another city as well – as per advice from my friends. Well, I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication at Silliman University in Dumaguete City. At first, I was puzzled, because I didn’t know that Silliman University exists, and it was also my first time to encounter Dumaguete City.

As what the saying goes, “we don’t know what we’re missing until it arrives.” Well, this is true to me. Well, I guess I should be thankful of the incident then, because deciding to move and study at Silliman University was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life. This may sound mushy, but it’s true.
Since I was so unfamiliar of the place, my parents decided to send me to a dormitory - so that I can meet girls from different cities, and I had a dorm manager who’ll be watching over me while I’m away from home - which was easy for them to monitor me as well.
Anyone who encounters the word “dormitory” would probably think of the words “strict rules” and “boring”. Well, I thought of this too; my first weeks at the dorm were really emotional drowning. But because of my open mindedness and personality, I was able to adjust; well I needed to, to meet up my goals - to finish college and have a degree.

I stayed at Larena Hall for 4 years. Larena Hall is one of the big ladies dormitories inside the campus of Silliman University. It’s in between Woodward Hall (dormitory for girls) and Doltz Hall (dormitory for boys); and fronting the University’s Main Library.
Yes, there were dormitory rules and activities to follow, like:
* Curfew – curfew time is at 9:30 pm.

* Study Time – at night before bed check; dormers are expected to stay inside their
respective rooms to study. Personal and phone calls are not allowed.

* Closed Week – minimal activities will be done a week before the major exams – so
that dormers can study and concentrate on their exams.

* Bed Check – student assistants have to check each room for the dormers’
attendance. If some dormers are not yet home after the curfew, the
incident will be reported to the dorm manager for disciplinary
actions.

* Siesta Hours – from 12 noon to 2 pm, the dormitory is closed – no phone and
personal calls are allowed.

* Meal-Time Schedules – there are allotted time schedules in eating breakfast,
lunch and dinner.

* Laundry Days – each dormer has one laundrywoman to wash her clothes and sheets
regularly; the laundry days are Monday and Thursday.

* Devotions – since Silliman University is a Protestant school, each dormer is
expected to respect and participate in the University’s religious
activities.

* Mid-week Service – religious service done every Wednesday at Silliman Church.

* Acquaintance Party (dorm and inter-dorm) – usually done at the first few months
of the school year.

* Ms. Larena Pageant– a mock dormitory pageant. Ms. Larena will be an automatic
representative to any inter-dorm activities together with the
dormitory officers.

* Sports Fest (dorm and inter-dorm) – for physical fitness and teambuilding.

* Parade – the dormers are expected to participate in the annual Parada
Sillimaniana – usually happens before the Founder’s Day.

* Open House – the dormers are required to make up their rooms for public
visitations – in time for the Founder’s Week.

* Christmas Party – usually done before the dormers go home to their respective
cities and places.

In my four years stay at Larena Hall, I was elected to be the Vice-President (2nd year stay), President (3rd year stay) and Dormitory Adviser (4th year stay). The responsibilities were quite heavy, because I have to maintain peace and harmony among over a hundred girls – in and out of the dormitory. These years are one of the best years in my life; I learned a lot on how to deal with different people with different personalities in cheerful and caring ways – which I still carry until as always wherever life takes me.

Pink Fridays: Pink Mannequins

One day, I was looking for a pouch for my digicam at SM Pampanga, and I happened to see these Pink Mannequins at Hip Culture boutique - on my way to the pouch shop. I was holding my digicam that time, so I didn't have doubts to take pictures for this week's Pink Fridays meme.

Have a great weekend to all! cheers! ^_^

Coco Juice - A Healthy Way to Quench Your Thirst

I have been avoiding soft drinks for quite a long time now; although I am able to drink on some occasions, but I try to make sure that I have a minimal intake. Instead, I drink coconut juice because it way healthier than any other drinks, plus you get to appreciate Mother Nature.

Before, coconut juice was quite difficult to find, but not nowadays; you can actually have them at the malls near you - what a convenience. Coco Fresco quenches my thirst in a very healthy way.

Here are some reason on why you should drink coco juice than any other drinks around:
1. Keeps the Body Hydrated - it contains all five of the same electrolytes that the body has including sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium.
2. Aids in the Weight Loss Process - it has low calorie content.
3. Boosts the Immune System - it helps to strengthen the body's immune system against a variety of viruses and other diseases.
4. Improves Circulation - it aids in the cleaning of the digestive tract.
5. Treats Urinary Infections - it is effective in treating kidney and urethral stones; it breaks up kidney stones making them easier to push out.
6. Acts as a Source of B Vitamins - it has B vitamins provide energy to the body, decrease anxiety and depressive symptoms, help with muscle functions and increase the immune response.
7. Promotes Skin Health - it acts as a light moisturizer which also decreases excessive oil on the skin.

I apologize if I wasn't able to participate lately - 'been real busy these days and usually get home so tired. I hope everyone's okay...

Anyways, the baby in the picture above is my second cousin - Angelina Belle, a half Filipino and a half Australian with her sleepy look (lol), pink clothes and pink surroundings. She's actually a placer in the recent Baby Photo Competition Promo by Huggies diapers.

Boyce Avenue: Just the Way You Are

I like this version of Boyce Avenue's "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. In my own opinion, their version is a lot better than the original one.

Pink Fridays: Contact Lenses Container

This my contact lenses container – with my graded contact lenses in it.
My eyes have grades since I was young; each eye has different grade from the other, that’s why I should tag which is the contact for each eye.
I started wearing eyeglasses when I was in high school; I had several eyeglasses.
A few years ago, I thought of trying to have graded contact lenses to have more convenience in everything I do. Until now, I’m using graded contact lenses.

Camiguin Island's Katibawasan Falls

For this week's Watery Wednesday meme, I'm featuring my brother; this picture was taken at Katibawasan falls at Camiguin Island in time for our annual Grand Family Reunion - which was held last weekend. After the reunion proper, the participants were toured around the Island's tourist spots.

So if you happen to visit Cagayan de Oro City or any place in Misamis Oriental, I highly recommend Camiguin to be part in your itinerary - it's just about ten kilometers off the northern coast of Misamis Oriental.

Improvised Basketball Court

A lot of Filipinos love the sport Basketball. Usually, you can see improvised basketball courts along the streets and at the backyards. One good example is the picture above - I found this improvised basketball board and ring attached to a tree at the back of my brother's apartment. It may not be as good as those in basketball courts and gyms, but the most important thing is people here (especially kids) get the chance to play, bond with each other, appreciate and master the game basketball.

Ruby Tuesday: Bubbly Me!

This picture was taken at my area / cubicle when I was with WeLC as a Teacher and Supervisor. I love this picture; I just love lots of colors around me, they make me feel so lively and cheerful – that go along with my bubbly personality. If you notice the collage of my pictures at my back, I made it and look at it whenever I feel so stressed at work - it makes me feel so light. wink!

Have a bubbly Ruby Tuesday everyone! Cheers! =)

Yummy Sunday: Cupcakes

This picture was taken last New Year’s Eve – in our Media Noche celebration. These cupcakes were ordinary ones that you can buy in any supermarkets; I just bought candies of different shapes and colors to bring more life. As what they say, that you should prepare and eat sweets and colorful foods (in round shapes) on New Year’s Eve to welcome the year with positivity and to have bountiful year ahead.

Have a great week everyone! cheers! =)

Signages: 01

This signage was taken at Baggage Carousel Area at Manila - NAIA last April 28, while waiting for my luggage to arrive.

Importance of Signage:

2. To avoid any accusations of theft.
3. To have systematic responsibilities of NAIA personnel.

Smiling Sally
Since my birthday is fast approaching, I thought of posting a picture that is somewhat related to it. =)

This picture was taken on my birthday a few years ago. My co-teachers at WeLC surprised me with this pink poster that had a little of blue and red-ink markers used for the greetings and wishes, a little of yellow on the flower decors and with my red polo shirt that perfectly fit for this week's Mellow Yellow Monday, Blue Monday, Ruby Tuesday, Pink Friday memes.

I hope you can drop by often at my site, thanks and have a blissful week everyone! cheers! =)

Romantic Quotes/Sayings: 01

I wish love is like a volleyball, you shout "mine" and everyone backs off.

Can Love be Based on IQ and EQ?

A lot of people think that high IQ and EQ are impossible to combine in order to have good and steady romantic relationships; they say, it should be high IQ and low EQ or the other way around to make the relationship work and last.

In my own point of views, love doesn’t have patterns, procedures or formulas to follow; it doesn’t have race, religion and age. When the right person and time come - with sparks and chemistry, then go for it!

Each one of us was born with a soul mate - who’ll make our lives complete and more meaningful. Love and relationship shouldn’t be based on how high your IQ is or how many relationships you’ve had that make your EQ high; Love should be unconditional - accepting and loving the uniqueness, shortcomings, weaknesses and imperfections of your mate perfectly.

Love Bears: Cute Bridal Car Decorations

One of my close friends (Maics) just got married to her long-time boyfriend (John) last May 14 - on her birthday as well. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the said wedding ceremony because I'm out of the city. Despite of it, I was a witness on how they prepared for the wedding.

It was their special day, so they wanted their day to be unique and memorable. Instead of the usual flower decorations for the bridal car, they had 2 love bears dressed as groom and bride in front of their bridal car. I find them so cute, aren't they? =)
